THV En Español

In 2003 Today’s THV began broadcasting the "THV 10:00 Difference" in Spanish.  Currently, Spanish translation is offered for the "CBS Evening News" with Katie Couric and "Today's THV at 6:00".

Today’s THV is Little Rock’s first and only nightly source of live, local TV news broadcast in Spanish. The growth of the Spanish speaking community in Arkansas is the second largest per-capita in the nation. We realize their desire and need for local news, and we’re proud to be the leader in this area.

A live Spanish interpretation of the "CBS Evening News" and "Today's THV at 6:00" is broadcast on Today’s THV’s SAP (Second Audio Program). SAP is available on most TV sets and can be accessed on the remote control or through the TV’s menu. The staff of Hola! Arkansas, publishers of a statewide bilingual newspaper, provides the interpreting services.

Current viewers of the "CBS Evening News" and "Today's THV at 6:00" will see or hear no change, since the Spanish interpretation is not on the station’s primary audio channel.

Arkansas’ demographics are changing rapidly. With this live interpretation of the local news, we are providing information, in their native language, that is relevant to Arkansas Hispanic viewers.

Secondary Audio Program
(SAP)

SAP gives broadcasters the ability to send out the television audio signal in more than one language. Today’s THV uses SAP Monday-Friday on the THV 10:00 Difference to broadcast the News in Spanish. When Spanish interpretation is not being broadcast, you should hear standard program audio.

How to select SAP on your TV

You can select SAP on your television, VCR remote control, or by reviewing your menu for audio options (sometimes SAP can be selected through the MTS function). If you have any problems please refer to your owners manual. Today's THV 10:00 Difference in Spanish can be seen and heard on SAP broadcasts you will find on channel 11, cable channel ten and outside of the Little Rock area on cable channel eleven.

What if I can't hear any sound when I tune into Today's THV?

Your television may be set to receive SAP audio instead of normal audio. Most newer TV sets have a feature that allows you to select three different types of audio signals, Mono, Stereo or SAP. To confuse the issue even more, Mono is sometimes referred to as Normal, but on other models Stereo is referred to as Normal. Stereo may also be referred to as MTS. SAP stands for Separate (or Secondary) Audio Program, and is the one selection you don't want selected if you are having problems.

How do you solve the problem?

Switch the audio back to the normal stereo, or mono channel on your television. We can't tell you how to do this since every make and model uses a different method. In general, look for a button marked SAP or audio on your remote control. If it's not there, you will probably have to find it in the on-screen menus of your set. Of course the best way is to find your owners manual and follow the directions there.
