Already broadcasting the most HD programming, KTHV's addition of High Definition technology to local newscasts further bolsters THV's position as Arkansas' News and HD Leader.
"Our large and loyal Arkansas audience should be thanked. They asked for local news in HD. Today's THV will deliver," said President and General Manager Larry Audas. "The technology and infrastructure changes are underway. We will update viewers as we move toward completion this fall."
Today's THV's technical plant will be fully transitioned to produce High Definition local news and commercial production.
THV viewers already enjoy CBS prime, CBS News, NFL, SEC Football, Dr. Phil, Ellen and numerous programs in HD. Adding Today's THV daily local newscasts to the station's High Definition schedule will complete the HD circle.
"We believe local news is all about community service, but at the same time must be compelling TV," according to THV News Director Chuck Maulden. "Add widescreen capability with a crisp HD picture and viewers will literally see the news and their community in more revealing and fresh newscasts on Today's THV."
The upgrade viewers will see on air involves the addition of HD tools and the rebuild of THV's behind the scenes technology. THV's Director of Technology Alison Fletcher said the viewer payoff will be well worth the effort."The added HD capability will advance THV newscasts and overall viewing to the widescreen experience viewers expect to see today."
Not unlike the move from black & white to color TV years ago, this is a big step forward for Arkansas viewers and the Little Rock marketplace, according to Audas. "Today's THV is pleased to maintain our viewer and client commitment to be Arkansas' News and High Definition Leader."
