LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) - Studies are showing that 2011 proved to be a better financial year than 2010 for Arkansas farmers.
Arkansas Business publisher Jeff Hankins visited the THV studio today to tell us more.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture says that the nation's crops were up 28 percent this year. The official numbers are not in just yet for Arkansas, but economists are predicting that the state should see a lift in net farm income.
The growth was spurred by a combination of certain crops getting harvested in larger numbers and other crops declining in quantity.
One crop that went down compared to 2010 was cotton. While more acres were used to grow cotton, its yields were down. That's because of a late start to planting. Summer nights proved to be too hot for cotton, and September wasn't quite warm enough.
