LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) - At one time, there were seven YMCA facilities in Little Rock. Now, there aren't any. The final location in West Little Rock closed last month.
However, parts of the nonprofit organization continue on.
Lance Turner with Arkansas Business stopped by the THV Information Center to give insight into this very subject.
Turner explains that that the YMCA had seen a steady decline over the years. Most of its revenue was present because of grants and donations. The YMCA entered a point where they couldn't spend money on upgrades.
Because of the lacking in updates, people began closing their memberships.
Turner says that Arkansas Business spoke with small gym owners who admit to having a small part in taking the YMCA's clientele. All of this, however, does not mean the Y is closed for good.
Turner said that there's still an organization with an office, a board, and a collection of programs that are ongoing.
