FOUNTAIN LAKE, Ark. (AP) -- Authorities say a Garland County man was killed as he tried to rescue his pets from his burning home.
Lt. James Martin of the Garland County Sheriff's office said Sunday that 64-year-old Presley Jarrett died at his residence in Fountain Lake.
Authorities say Jarrett's wife told them the couple realized their house was on fire about 11:20 p.m. Saturday and they began gathering their animals to get them outside.
Officials believe that when Presley Jarrett went back into the house to get some more pets, he was overcome by the smoke and was unable to make it back outside.
Authorities say no foul play is suspected.
