LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - Zach Kirksey hit a three-run homer and Mississippi pitchers allowed only five hits as the Rebels beat Arkansas State 8-1 in college baseball.
The score was tied 1-1 until Kirksey's home run in the bottom of the fourth inning put Mississippi ahead for good at 4-1 on Tuesday. The Rebels (2-1) added four more runs in the fifth inning.
Kirksey went 1-for-3 and Blake Newalu finished 1-for-2 with two RBIs for Mississippi.
Zach George's RBI single in the first inning gave Arkansas State it's only offensive spark and its only lead - 1-0. He finished 1-for-3.
Sam Smith (1-0) won the game for Mississippi, allowing three hits and one run in four innings.
Cory Kyle (0-1) allowed seven hits and four runs in 3 1-3 innings for the loss.
