HOT SPRINGS Ark. (KTHV) -- Another season is in the books for Oaklawn. The Arkansas Derby wrapped up Saturday evening.
Bodemeister won the derby; it was an exciting race for the fans. We spoke with several people who came from all over the country to see these horses race.
"It's the best track ever and I've been to a lot, the fans are fun and smart and it's a race track."
Mike Halterman is from Missouri and drove five hours to see these horses run. It's a tradition he keeps with his son.
"We started coming about seven years ago, first year we got hooked."
Horse No. 11, Bodemeister took home the prize. Randy Hoyt with Oaklawn says he was the fan favorite 2 to 1.
"We saw an incredible race with Bodemeister. A lot of racing fans have been looking for a three year old to step up and be the Kentucky Derby favorite and you saw that today and a really fast time."
This is the 76th anniversary of the Festival of the South; it started in 1975. Other top finishers include Secret Circle and Sabercat. Boedmister will be moving onto the Kentucky Derby.
