LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) -- Jay Russell has been involved in some highly enjoyable and profitable movies. "End of the Line," "My Dog Skip," "Waterhorse."
A native of North Little Rock, when asked to come back home and speak to young filmmakers at this year's Little Rock Film Festival, he responded immediately. Russell doesn't get home very often. He still rents out his parents' home here. His residence is in California, but, he told us at THV, he felt honored to be coming back and sharing his expertise.
Russell has directed some of the best known actors in America: Sir Ben Kingsley, Kevin Bacon, William Hurt, Holly Hunter, Sissy Spacek, and ofcourse Mary Steenburgen, who helped give him a break with the movie "End of the Line." Russell told us that it's a good time to be an independent filmmaker, with so many good festivals available to show work and get noticed, and technology helping directors bypass theater chains and go right to video on demand.
Russell was expected to speak at a forum at the Arts Center on Wednesday, and will be in attendance at several other events.
